Expressionism 30 yrs of it in this painting.
History and the dictionary will tell you Expressionism
started in the early 20th century, most notably in poetry and
painting. I don’t buy it. The playwrights of ancient Greece or the
middle ages with their satire towards the government may have something to say
about that.
With expressionism we present the world from our unique, subjective
perspective often distorting it to evoke emotions or ideas from our
audience. For an artist, musician or
writer this is a good thing and should not be tempered. With expressionism we unmask our fears,
loves, hatreds and just about any other emotion we may have about the subject
of our work.
Too often, especially in visual arts I hear an artist say I hope the audience understood the message I wanted to convey. If you have to ask that question then you haven't put all your emotions into your work.
Rule #4 Expressionism, express yourself, get in touch with your inner feelings and don’t be afraid to put them into your work.

Love your artwork Bill. My father is an artist as well, but he's old school and paints with oils on canvas. I'm a big fan of his and maybe just a little biased. (:
Anyway, rule #4 is something that can be applied to writing as well. I'm glad to have stumbled onto your site. Looking forward to reading your previous posts.
Strange, I've only encountered formal expressionism critiques for painting, never in literature or drama. The fetish for perspective is certainly deep in modernism and post-modernism, but we know it existed before. Dante's Divine Comedy is ripe with it.
That piece is both beautiful and haunting. Thanks for sharing!
Happy A-Z!
Your paintings are beautiful! As one who has no ability in drawing or painting, I admire those who do. Thank you for sharing your work and thoughts!
You certainly evoked an emotion or two in me with this little girl. It's stunning
